COVID-19 pandemic caused major disruptions in supply chain activities; border closures and travel restrictions made it difficult to trade critical parts and spares from key OEM hubs and prevented vendors and skilled manpower from coming into the country.

To address these disruptions, OPTS begun an Inventory sharing initiative, where materials are exchanged between organisations in the industry.  Communications for these exchanges are in the form of 15minute virtual meetings twice a week (on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9am).

Indigenous companies were in August invited to participate in this Inventory sharing initiative put in place to help alleviate the negative effects of COVID-19 on supply chain activities.

During the meetings, supply chain decision makers from each company state their critical procurement and manpower requirements. These critical needs are then collated by representatives of member companies and taken back to the various organisations to confirm availability of the requested materials and determine the possibility of exchange in the form of a sale/loan. If the exchange is feasible, the relevant companies communicate with each other to complete the sale/loan process.
