1. Introduce yourself and tell us about your journey to OPTS
I have over 25 years commercial experience in a variety of industry sectors including Upstream and Downstream Oil and Gas. In my current role, I am responsible for all contracting and procurement activities for Shell’s operations in Nigeria (SPDC, SNEPCO and SNG). Prior to moving to Nigeria, I was based in The Hague supporting the development of Shell’s Deepwater projects in the Gulf of Mexico and Malaysia and the Conventional Oil and Gas projects across EMEA. Prior to joining the contracting function I worked in the strategy and M&A department of Shell. Originally trained as a mechanical engineer, I completed my education at the Britannia Royal Naval Colleague and Commando Training Centre Royal Marines before completing 10 years’ military service. I hold an MSc in Leadership and MCIPS a professional supply chain accreditation. Based in Port Harcourt, I have sponsored numerous local content initiatives and have been instrumental in developing Shell’s approach to supplier management and growing local content.
2. Introduce your subcom and your vision for your subcom and its importance within the industry
The Industry Cost Efficiency Sub com aims to drive effective collaboration with all industry operators to increase the industries cost competitiveness and ensure efficiencies across Nigeria’s Oil and Gas operations.
3. What is most rewarding about your new role?
The opportunity to contribute to industry wide improvements that ensure long term sustainability of our operations is an exciting development for Nigeria and all operators.
4. What is most challenging about your role?
Ensuring we remain compliant with the antitrust guidelines whilst trying to achieve industry collaboration is a careful balancing act when considering that all operators remain competitors.
5. In 2 years’ time, if we are celebrating your tenure, what do you hope to have achieved?
In 2 years’ time I would hope that the industry has been able to collaborate to establish shared strategic “assets or resources” that enhance the overall competitiveness of the industry and enhance local content and has been celebrated and recognised by the Presidency and ES NCDMB
6. What innovation have you/will you bring to your role?
Driving collaborative discussions at all levels of the industry that are focused and outcome based and ensure use of latest digital technologies to reduce the cost of production.
